Ready to overhaul your fall garden? Marty Ross shared great fall gardening ideas in this Kansas City Star article. We thought we would share.
Renew Your Fall Garden
- Re-Plant! Are some of your flower/shrubs looking less than fresh? Time to haul them out and re-plant with foliage that does well in our Kansas City climate. Consider blue-mist Shrub (caryopteris) or beauty berry (callicarpa), asters, pansies and/or coral cells (heuchera) for color variety.
- Lighting. Fall nights may be crisp but they also provide the season’s last star-gazing. Alternate your lighting sources to provide ambiance but also highlight your fall and winter foliage so you can enjoy it when you’re housebound.
- Play time. Consider adding some outdoor game courses, like croquet, Bocce courts, or a horse shoe pit in underused areas. Family and guests will love it and it might even inspire you to add those “to-do” list landscaping items.
- Grill it Up. Just because summer is over doesn’t mean it’s time to retire the grill. Cool autumn afternoons are perfect for the last of your seasonal outdoor parties.
Entryway landscaping. Use big pots to add a splash of color, as well as a floral-welcoming-committee, to your doorstep using mums, asters, chrysanthemums and other cheerful flowering plants.
