Most landscapes are not flat, and that means landscapers need to know how to mow on a slope. When it comes to the best mowing practices for slopes, the following are some rules we follow:
- Stay alert. The steeper the slope, the more likely your mower will be to tip over. For this reason, it’s important to make sure that you are never down slope from the machine as it’s operating.
- Mow across the slope. If you have more than a gentle slope to mow, be sure to mow across it. This reduces the angle of the mower, which reduces the likelihood that it will tip.
- Mow dry. Never mow wet grass on a slope as it is extremely easy to slip on the slick blades of grass.
- Watch the blades. The steeper the slope, the more uneven the terrain. This makes it easier for blades to dig dirt and spit rocks and pebbles up.
