Focal points are essential to creating a landscape design that is unique and appealing. The inclusion of everything from a firepit to an outdoor living space can go a long way towards making your landscape stand out in the neighborhood.
The key is balance, and you want to include focal points that fit into the landscape, but are not so overpowering that they are obtrusive. For example, placing a bird feeder within a flower bed is an excellent way to draw attention to the flowers, plus it makes pollination a bit easier.
Another option is to create central gathering points such as firepits, outdoor kitchens, swimming pools, benches, etc. By tying these together with walkways, and strategically placing them within the landscape, you can turn your focal points into functional spaces that are comfortable and inviting. Of course, whatever you do, don’t go overboard. You want just a few focal points otherwise your landscape will look cluttered and confusing.
