Choosing the right pots for your container gardens is almost as important as deciding what you want to plant. Here are some things to think about when determining which pots are right for your planting needs.

Plastic Pots
Plastic containers are available in a myriad of shapes, sizes, and styles. They are inexpensive and are often poorly constructed. They may or may not last for multiple seasons, and they will lose their luster with time.
Clay
Clay is the tried and trusted method for container gardening. It is porous and allows water to drain through it easily, plus it ages well if it is cared for properly. Of course, it is breakable which means care must be taken that they are not dropped or shuffled around too frequently.
Wood
Redwood and cedar are rot resistant which makes them ideal for gardening as they will easily last for many seasons. As long as they are not treated with creosote or other phenolic compounds, the plants you place inside them will feel right at home.
