Fertilizing your lawn is not a difficult process but it does require some knowledge as to the right materials and procedures. A homeowner trying to keep his lawn looking its best and staying healthy should consider the following items:
- Best Times – Lawns should be fertilized at the beginning of the spring season and, once again, in the middle of summer. Further applications are merely wasteful and can often damage a lawn.
- Right Fertilizer – There are dozens of different fertilizer blends designed specifically for lawns. Many combine pre-emergent herbicides and even insecticides. Check with a professional to find the right one for your particular needs.
- Proper Application – Fertilizer must be spread when the lawn is dry or the fertilizer will stick to the blades and burn the lawn. Using the minimum spreader setting and going over the lawn several times is also recommended as opposed to a wider setting and one pass.
