September is the most important month for fertilizing in Kansas City. Your bluegrass and tall fescue lawns are hungry because their food reserves have nearly depleted if not already gone. Your grass needs the nutrients in fertilizer in order to grow and develop. Fall is a great time to apply these nutrients because after the summer we’ve had, lawns across the city are starving. Fertilizer helps to rebuild the roots and crowns, therefore growing those beautiful landscapes we desire.
If you are an avid gardener, you may already now that nitrogen helps to thicken the stand which encourages development of a healthy root system. Since this year’s summer was pretty stressful, the cooler temperatures of fall along with the rain and nutrients from fertilizer will help your Kansas City yard to recover.
If you can’t get it done in September, then November is the next best time to fertilize.
