At Hermes Landscaping, we love to help Kansas City area residents and businesses keep their grounds looking great, with services ranging from landscape design and installation to sprinkler service, landscape maintenance, and more. Here’s a tip to help you keep your lawn looking its best, by preventing or treating brown patch disease.
This common lawn disease plagues plenty of yards, especially in warm, humid areas, and goes after all kinds of grasses. The disease manifests in circular patches of dead grass, and can be brought on by the use of quick-release nitrogen fertilizers, which lower resistance to the disease.
The good news is that brown patch is treatable, but the sooner you address the problem, the better. A contact fungicide applied over the course of several weeks, or possibly until the hot weather ends, will cure the disease.
If you haven’t had a problem with brown patch before, lucky you! In order to prevent it, there are some precautions you can take.
- Water infrequently, and keep the grass as dry as possible.
- Only water in the early morning.
- Dethatch or aerate your lawn.
- Use slow-release nitrogen fertilizer, and do not fertilize during periods of heavy rain.
